The Wealth Gap
Black households in the Boston area face an enormous wealth gap: the median household wealth for white families is nearly $250k; for Black families, the median household wealth is $8.00.
When it comes to starting and operating a business, this wealth gap has profound consequences: nationally, for every $1 available to a single white male starting a business, single Black women and Hispanic women had less than $0.01 in capital available to them. For Black and Brown women in Boston, these disparities are undoubtedly even larger, due to Boston's extreme wealth gap.
Undercapitalized business struggle to launch, and they struggle to thrive.
